Morley celebrates British Science Week

Science is in Morley’s DNA – Morley College began in 1889 building on the success of a series of groundbreaking Penny Lectures given by eminent scientists of the day.

Throughout the week we are celebrating British Science Week at Morley – with science demos, transformational student stories – and shining a spotlight on our amazing science and healthcare teaching facilities.

The North Kensington Centre for Skills will showcase how chemistry, materials science and experimentation underpin students’ creative practice in visual arts disciplines – from ceramics and glassmaking to interior design and jewellery-making.

For example on Interior Design courses, students engage in research and hands‑on experimentation, developing their own material recipes and surface finishes – such as coffee‑based cladding or seaweed insulation. This process helps students to understand the innovation behind the growing use of eco‑materials in Interiors and Architecture.

Visit North Kensington during British Science Week

Student creative works combined with scientific processes will be on display in the reception area of the North Kensington Centre for Skills. Visitors are welcome to visit the Centre to see these fascinating works!

Study science and healthcare at Morley

Morley College London offers a diverse range of science and health courses designed to support learners from introductory level through to university preparation at the North Kensington Centre for Skills and the Waterloo Centre for Adult Education.

Our Applied Sciences programmes cover areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, geology, epidemiology and medical biosciences, all taught in well‑equipped, purpose-built facilities that provide hands‑on practical experience.

For those pursuing health careers, the Access to HE Diploma in Health and Human Sciences provides a pathway into nursing, midwifery and allied health professions including radiography, physiotherapy, dietetics, nutrition and occupational therapy. Learners can also progress into scientific fields such as pharmacology, chemistry, pharmacy, biomedical science, engineering, physics and earth sciences. Short courses, including topics like diabetes awareness, offer additional entry points for those exploring health and wellbeing roles.
