16-18 year students at the Chelsea Centre for Creative Industries showcased their creative talents this month – in landscape architecture, design, sustainable fashion and broadcasting – making the most of the career-enhancing opportunities Morley offers its students.

Two Morley 3D design students win work experience placements at influential landscape design firm
Two Chelsea 3D design students were selected this month to spend a week working this summer at WWA, a leading urban design and planning company – in a competition judged by The Landscape Institute, the UK’s chartered body for landscape professionals.
Student Brief
25 students from the 3D Design course at Morley College London responded to an industry- led brief. The project challenged learners to redesign Cremorne Gardens in Chelsea as an inclusive and environmentally responsive public space that promotes health, wellbeing and biodiversity. Cremorne Gardens is a historic public green space in Chelsea, located close to the River Thames, serving as an important recreational area for local residents and visitors. Through site research, historical analysis and design development, students produced masterplans, visual proposals and scale models exploring new ways to enhance the park for the local community.

Congratulations to Polina Gorzhyi and Danna Valeria Espinoza, who were selected as the winning students and awarded the joint work experience prize with WWA Landscape Architects.

The judges were impressed by the creativity, research depth and presentation skills demonstrated across the submissions. The overall quality of the work reflects the commitment, technical ability and design thinking developed by the students throughout the project.
The judges commented on the quality of entries by Chelsea students. The Landscape Institute said they were excited to see ‘the level of care and effort, reflective thinking at multiple stages, creative responses the history of the site, design exploration through models, CAD skills and planting schemes.“
Lorenzo Andreani, Curriculum Leader: Art & Design
“This project gave our students the opportunity to work on a real landscape brief while engaging directly with industry professionals. Collaborations with the Landscape Institute and WWA Landscape Architects allow learners to experience how design ideas evolve from research to proposal, while developing the creative and technical skills needed for careers in the built environment.”

Fashion Students Showcase Sustainable Designs Inspired by Vivienne Westwood at Chelsea Oxfam Store
Just a short walk from the Chelsea Centre for Creative Industries stands one of fashion history’s most iconic landmarks: Worlds End, the first shop opened by legendary British designer Vivienne Westwood. Right beside it sits a vibrant branch of Oxfam, the global charity working to end poverty.
Inspired by this unique local connection, fashion students from the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Practice (Fashion Design, Textiles, and Communication) collaborated with Oxfam to create innovative designs with repurposed clothes bought at Oxfam.

Reimagining Westwood Through Sustainable Fashion
Drawing inspiration from Vivienne Westwood’s revolutionary approach to fashion, students developed original looks using pre-loved garments sourced directly from Oxfam. Students studying Westwood’s practice and each of them responded to one of her collections, creating designs that reflected her bold spirit while expressing their own individual creativity
Each week, a new group of students presented their finished looks in the Oxfam shop window, styling their looks with additional accessories found in-store. The result was a dynamic, ever-changing display that celebrated individuality while forming a cohesive collective showcase.
Vivienne Westwood opened her first boutique in 1971 at 430 King’s Road, London, in partnership with Malcolm McLaren. Originally named Let It Rock, the shop specialised in 1950s rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia. It later transformed several times, becoming Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die and then the iconic SEX, before finally rebranding as Worlds End in 1980. The boutique remains a symbol of creativity, subversion, and innovation in British fashion.

Learning Beyond the Classroom
This experience made students think not only about their fashion designs, but also about how to style, present them and show them in a public space.
The project also prompted critical thinking around recycling and sustainability, an urgent and evolving focus within contemporary fashion practice. Students demonstrated how creativity can challenge fast fashion and promote more responsible production methods.
We also spoke to several of the students throughout the development of their projects. Watch these behind-the-scenes moments and hear directly from the designers at our social media channels and keep an eye out for our upcoming series of reels featuring #MorleyChelseaFashion.

Visit to Buckingham Palace for 3D design
This week, students from the Chelsea Centre had the unique opportunity to visit Buckingham Palace and explore the Reservicing Programme construction sites.
This major project, due for completion in 2027, involves the replacement and renewal of essential services throughout the Palace, ensuring the historic building remains fit for purpose for the next 50 years. The programme will also deliver long-term financial and environmental benefits, alongside improvements to visitor access.
The visit offered valuable insight for students aspiring to careers in the construction industry, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at the infrastructure and maintenance of one of the world’s most iconic buildings.
Chelsea Student Takeover – Morley Radio
Morley Radio, Morley’s community and a Chelsea student radio station take over – a special hour-long programme featuring tunes, guest interviews and discussion about making music. The show is part of the student run division of Morley Radio, The Morley Collective welcome individuals from all backgrounds and interests to make their own podcasts and live shows.
