Beginner and Intermediate Stained Glass

Class format and activities

There is an emphasis on practical learning through the creation of your own stained glass panels. In consultation with the teacher, you will design a stained glass panel that you will execute throughout the term. There will be lessons on different techniques to help you extend your skills. Throughout the course, the teacher will work with students in groups and one-to-one at the different stages of the process.

Learning Outcomes

• 01: design technically advanced patterns suitable for stained glass leaded lights
• 02: cut difficult shapes of glass confidently
• 03: use different techniques in your designs
• 04: have a greater understanding of how colour and texture of glass can be used to enhance your designs

Course entry requirements

The course is suitable for those who have completed the Introduction to Working with Stained Glass course at Morley College, or similar.

What you need to know before you enrol

The course involves standing for most of the processes. The studio is on the 3rd floor of the main building, there is lift access. Although suitable safety equipment is provided to everyone we do not recommend this course if you are pregnant. Appropriate Health and Safety guidance will be given throughout the course.

What to bring to class

You will need to wear sturdy shoes, boots or trainers (no open sandals). You should wear old clothers or an apron. It would also be helpful to bring: Sketchbook/ notebook A4 Pencils/ coloured pencils/ pens Marker pen (Pilot Sign pen is good) All tools you will require will be supplied. What you can do next

The course provides an excellent grounding in the techniques necessary to make leaded lights. You could continue to develop your skills with further intermediate stained glass classes and other courses at Morley College.
