Acting: Introduction

An introduction to acting which will also build confidence, self-awareness, interpersonal skills and trust. This course will introduce improvisation, role-play; voice, movement and text-based work; character building and devised ensemble performance. After this course you can progress onto Acting: Intermediate. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the following learning outcomes. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e. progression to an advanced-level course.

Class format and activities

This course takes place in centre, in our Johnny Harris Studio Theatre space. The tutor may provide additional material such as video recaps and/or practical tasks via any of the online platforms supported by the College (Moodle, MS stream, GoogleClassroom).

Learning Outcomes

  • 01: Have developed trust during group work, through drama games and exercises
  • 02: Continue to build your confidence when acting in front of others
  • 03: Continue to build your knowledge of the communication skills required in the craft of acting
  • 04: Regularly apply movement and vocal skills as part of your craft
  • 05: Use improvisation from a given scenario using spontaneous and planned verbal and non-verbal interaction
  • 06: Use role-effectively to develop scenes and elements of characterisation with others

Course entry requirements

This is a practical course so you will need to have a willingness to participate in the range of planned class activities

What you need to know before you enrol

You will have movement and other physical exercises as part of the programme Excellent attendance and punctuality will be required from all students. This course will include some completion of activities outside of class time, e.g. preparation of favourite exercises to share with fellow students.
