This BTEC course in Art and Design with subject specialism in interior design and architecture gives you the opportunity to explore the vast subject of the world of Design and Architecture. Based in our specialist design studios you will work on projects that mirror those in industry, taught by R Rubio, an Interior Architect with more than 25 years’ experience in consultancy. Projects include domestic, commercial and product design, writing articles and collaborations with architects, engineers, designers and the trades in the UK, Europe and Middle East. She has worked in Barcelona, Austria, Germany, Scotland and London where primarily she has been concentrating on renovations, interior design and lecturing. This course is aimed at applicants who want to progress onto the Interior design industry who may already have some experience or an interest in refurbishing residential properties. The course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to design residential interiors and prepare for design related employment. This course is designed to let you study around your family and work commitments.

Class format and activities

Teaching involves lectures and design workshops; where you will be introduced to drawing skills, colour theory styling, computer aided design (CAD), conceptual and spatial thinking to help you understand the creative design process and develop ideas for a client brief. There will be visits to exhibitions, galleries and trade fairs and all sessions will be delivered by professional lecturer and practising Interior architect.

Course entry requirements

GCSE English & Maths Grades A-C / 4-9 or Level 2 Equivalent, Interior Design Experience or Level 2 Qualification. An enthusiasm for the subject and a willingness to learn. (Previous creative work is welcome) A task will be sent to the candidates and informal interview will be arrange with all selected candidates.

A series of different tools and materials will need to be bought during the year. The list of material will be provided on the induction day. The Design studio at North Kensington is well equipped for the students to use.
