Morley students travel to Spain for Turing Scheme Work Experience Placements

Today [Tuesday 13th January] 17 students from the North Kensington Centre for Skills flew to Valencia, Spain, to begin international work experience placements funded by the Department for Education’s Turing Scheme.

The Turing Scheme gives students in UK schools, colleges, and universities the chance to learn new skills, travel the world, and boost their employability, all while learning about different cultures.     In 2026,  over 130 Morley students will be undertaking work placements or cultural exchanges funded by the Turing Scheme.

North Kensington trip to Valencia, Spain

North Kensington students studying T-Level Jewellery, IT BTEC, BTEC Music production and performance, and UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in 3D Design  will spend three weeks on tailored work placements inside businesses in Valencia, whilst experiencing living together in a hostel.    The costs of the 25 day trip are all met by the Turing Scheme.

The Turing work placements compliment coursework while growing students’ employability skills. The Valencia placements include music venues, web development companies, bicycle hire and architecture firms.

Luke Lount, Head of Creative and Humanities at North Kensington,  is accompanying students on the Valencia trip.  Luke said:

“Our North Kensington FE students are excited to gain experience working and living in the Valencia – a vibrant and culturally rich Spanish city on the East Coast of Spain.  Students will have work experience placements in businesses across the city.  They’ll also benefit from language lessons and experience group cultural and educational visits.  The trip is an amazing opportunity for young students from diverse backgrounds to experience travel and life working and living in Spain.”

Chelsea Centre Creative Industries students to Portugal and Germany

Following on from the Valencia trip,  in February FE and HE students from Morley’s Chelsea Centre for Creative industries will travel overseas on Turing Scheme trips to Portugal and Germany.  Further trips are being planned for the summer term.

30 students studying on Chelsea’s UAL Level 3 Extended diploma in Art & Design, Fashion, 3D Design, Film, TV and Media, Photography, Games Design, Graphic Design and BTEC Esports will have work placements in Lisbon, Portugal.   25 students from Chelsea’s UAL Level 4 Foundation Art and Design, and UAL Level 4 Foundation Fashion, will travel to Berlin, Germany, for cultural exchanges and develop an extended art project with Berlin college Ernst-Litfass Schule.

Colin Johnson,  Principal,  Chelsea Centre For Creative Industries said;  “The Turing Scheme offers students once-in-a- lifetime opportunities for young students to develop new skills and experience other cultures by working and living overseas. Morley has participated in the Turing scheme for the past three years.

The scheme gives fantastic opportunities to young people – including students from disadvantaged backgrounds who might not otherwise have the chance to work and travel overseas.  Morley has a strong track-record providing work placements and cultural exchanges for our students resulting in excellent learning outcomes and life-changing experiences.   These placements are an important element of Morley’s rich educational offer to FE and HE students. In 2026,  we are proud that one hundred and thirty Morley students will experience work placements or cultural exchanges funded by the Turing Scheme. ”
